We’d love our TPA members to know that the ‘Persons with Disability’ facilities project at The Tom Atkin Hall (The ‘Tom’) is now complete, proudly funded by the NSW Government.
This is the second stage of a long project that started during COVID when many of our regular tenants were unable to access the hall. The rejuvenation project was our opportunity to bring the ‘Tom’ up to contemporary standards to meet the diverse needs of our broad, border community.
Stage one of the rejuvenation project achieved equitable access into our hall, which then needed accessible amenities at the main floor level. Even our kitchen now has equitable access for those who may wish to assist in cooking.
It’s only through the support of our volunteers, community donations, and significant contributions from entities such as the Cross-Border Commissioner’s Infrastructure Fund that this project could be conceived and realised.
There will be subsequent upgrades to the ‘Tom,’ but in the meantime, we can feel proud that we’ve reached this milestone.
This project has won a Gold Coast Urban Design Award – 2023.
